Sudan is facing the world’s most severe humanitarian crisis. Humanitarian assistance is needed by 33.7 million people – more than in any other country – and nearly 12 million people remain displaced. Nearly 19.5 million people are facing crisis levels of hunger, and several areas are at risk of famine.
The people of Sudan have endured years of devastating war, marked by shifting frontlines, severe protection risks and the involvement of multiple armed groups across the country. Darfur and Kordofan have been among the hardest-hit regions, where insecurity, administrative restrictions and disrupted supply chains have limited humanitarian access, while protection services and referral systems for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence have been severely disrupted.
