Community Programme

Community Programme

The Community Programme contributes to the creation of more complete and stronger communities by supporting refugees in adapting to a new society and the local or host community in involving new arrivals. To this end, we organize community events and various group activities and children's and youth camps all over Estonia.

Subprogrammes

Children and youth activities

A part of the community programme ERC organizes summer camps for children. The camps welcome children from both Estonian and refugee backgrounds. The aim is to give Estonian children the opportunity to get to know people from another cultural space, broaden their horizons and develop tolerance for others. For refugee children we want to give an opportunity to connect with new people, make new friends and develop self-confidence and courage in a new cultural space.

Community events

As part of the community program, we regularly organize group activities and larger one-off family events. Participating in events and group activities helps support mental health, social and cultural adaptation, creates a sense of belonging, prevents isolation and contributes to further integration.

Countries where this programme currently take place:

Eesti Pagulasabi has been conducting various community-oriented activities since 2017.

The purpose of the community programme is to support the inclusion and integration of refugees who have arrived in Estonia into society.

Sub-goals of the community programme:

  • The community programme is an effective point of contact and a bridge for entering various adaptation and integration services (both private and public services as well as Refugee Assistance services).
  • Refugees who have arrived in Estonia have been integrated into local communities.
  • Refugees who have arrived in Estonia have a say in decisions that affect them and protect their interests.

Community programme activities:

  • Community events and group activities in cooperation with the host community (family and youth events, various workshops, hobby groups and outings)-
  • Implementation of the refugee community council. The purpose of the Community Council is to empower refugees to solve their problems in a systematic and citizen-initiative manner, while improving their representation and involvement.
  • Connecting refugees with available opportunities and referring them to services.
