On 19 November, from 5 PM to 9 PM, the Estonian Refugee Council will host a solidarity event in Freedom Square, Tallinn, where a thousand candles will be lit to mark 1,000 days since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The event is part of the ongoing campaign “1,000 Days of War, 1,000 Warm Homes.”

“19 November marks 1,000 days since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. These 1,000 days have brought extensive destruction and a humanitarian crisis affecting millions in Ukraine, forcing thousands to flee their homes. Last Sunday night, Russia carried out its largest missile attack in three months against Ukraine, severely damaging the country’s energy infrastructure,” said Eero Janson, Director of the Estonian Refugee Council. He added that the event aims to express solidarity with those impacted by the war. “By lighting candles, we draw attention to the fact that 1,000 days later, people in Ukraine are still living amid war and destruction and continue to require humanitarian aid,” said Janson.

The public is invited to join in lighting candles at Freedom Square starting at 5 PM. Speeches will begin at 6 PM, featuring Eero Janson, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus TsahknaOksana Puzikova representing Ukraine’s community in Estonia, and Ukraine’s Ambassador to Estonia, Maksym Kononenko. People are welcome to show their support until 9 PM.
