Estonian Refugee Council has joined the Standby Partnership Network (SPB Network) – an international network that brings together UN agencies and humanitarian expert rosters from around the world. It strengthens the organisation’s international role and enables it to contribute more systematically to responding to global crises.

The Standby Partnership Network aims to ensure that during crises the UN and other humanitarian organisations have rapid access to top-level experts – from logisticians and coordinators to data and digital solutions specialists. Organisations in the network can deploy their experts at short notice to support humanitarian operations in crisis areas.

The Estonian Refugee Council joined the network through DigiCap. DigiCap brings together experts in the digitalisation of humanitarian aid who help develop interoperable digital registration systems, analytics and other technological solutions in crisis settings, making assistance faster, more accurate and more transparent.

“Effective humanitarian aid increasingly depends on digital capacity – on how well we can collect, analyse and use data to make decisions. Through DigiCap we can offer the UN and our partners the expertise that exists in Estonia and that today’s crises require. Our goal is for technology not to be an additional layer, but a natural and strategic part of humanitarian assistance,” said Eero Janson, Director of the Estonian Refugee Council.

The Standby Partnership Network, which has been operating for more than 30 years, brings together NGOs, government agencies, donors, private sector organisations, foundations and intergovernmental bodies. Today the network responds to more than 1,000 requests for support each year in over 100 countries.
